The Hach DR 2800 Portable Spectrophotometer can be used for more than 240 analytical methods. (Test parameters are listed on page 3.) The new Pocket Colorimeter™ II Filter Photometer is a true go-anywhere instrument. It's lightweight and battery operated, suitable for extended field work or quick, on-the-spot process monitoring. The instrument has two channels in which measurements can be made. Each channel will accept a user-defined calibration curve. Up to 10 standards can be used to determine the calibration. The curve is generated by a point-to-point straight line segment between each standard used. Linear and non-linear positive or negative slope calibrations can be performed. A calibration curve may also be manually entered from the keypad if a previously determined curve has been made on the Colorimeter. At least two data pairs (concentration and absorbance) are required.

Three Parameters in One Instrument
The Hach TSS Portable Hand-held Turbidity, Suspended Solids, and Sludge Blanket Level Instrument's unique multi-beam alternating light method with infrared diode system gives it a broad measuring range for both turbidity and suspended solids in one portable handheld instrument.
Multiple Calibration Curves for Convenience

Easy Sludge Blanket Levels
The sludge blanket level can be measured by setting the units to mg/L, g/L or percent. Calibrate the instrument and then slowly lower the sensor into the clarifier. The suspended solids concentration will significantly increase as it reaches the sludge blanket level. Once the blanket level is reached, examine the sensor cable which is marked every meter to determine the sludge blanket level depth from the water surface.
Air Bubble Compensation for Accuracy
The instrument software automatically compensates for air bubbles to prevent its influence on the measurement. Turbidity is pre-calibrated with a calibration curve stored in the instrument. For suspended solids, each of the calibration curves can be closely adjusted to the laboratory results because each calibration curve can use up to three points per curve plus a zero value.

The probe is made of polished stainless steel with a scratch-resistant sapphire window to withstand harsh environments. Polished stainless steel helps keep particles from sticking to the surface of the probe. The internal memory stores up to 290 measuring values, including time, date, measurement, location, and homogeneity. Three operating modes are available: single, interval, or continuous.

It’s pretty easy to understand why “staying out of the flow” is a smart approach to avoid sensor-fouling and the resulting missed flow data. That’s exactly why we developed the non-contact FLO-DAR® AV Sensor. Using advanced digital Doppler radar velocity-sensing technology, along with ultrasonic level-sensing, the FLO-DAR revolutionizes open-channel flow monitoring by measuring from above the flow. This means it can more effectively provide highly-accurate flow data under a wide range of challenging flow and site conditions, including sensor disturbances, high solids content, high temperature, shallow and caustic flows, large man-made channels, and high velocities of up to 20 ft/s, to name a few.
And because the FLO-DAR is mounted above it all, personnel have little or no contact with the flow during installation. In fact, future sensor removal or replacement can even be done without the need for confined space entry. Talk about a time saver.
Lastly, for those times when a surcharge event does raise the flow to sensor level, the FLO-DAR's pressure level sensor and optional electromagnetic Surcharge Velocity Sensor will continue to provide uninterrupted and accurate flow data.
